Children when they face changes such as moving a school, or moving to a new grade can sometimes feel worried and stressed. If this involves moving to a new country and finding a new home, whilst also leaving behind friends and family and all that is familiar, this is a major transition. Understanding that transition is a process illustrated in the Transition Bridge Visual can really help us see that the strong emotions that can be present such as sadness, loss, fear and anxiety, do pass, but can take time and often need support to help make this process easier.
Helping children fill their emotional cup before, during and after transition can help them settle and adjust more smoothly.
